Last
week I had the pleasure of attending the Season 3 Blu-Ray and DVD launch for Game of Thrones. Though
I have not read the books, I am a huge Game of Thrones fan. I watched the first
three seasons, back to back over the course of about a month or two. After the
first couple episodes, I was hooked.
For
those of you who have been living under a rock over the past few years, Game of
Thrones is a fantasy drama series on HBO, and is an adaptation of the “A Song
of Ice and Fire” book series written by George R. R. Martin. Game of Thrones
debuted on HBO in April 2011 and the fourth season will debut on April 6, 2014.
Let the countdown begin!

The
Season 3 Blu-Ray and DVD launch party was a Red Wedding themed event. If you have not seen the Red
Wedding episode, don’t worry – I will not post any spoilers. But, for those
that have seen it, holy smokes! Wasn’t it amazing? But I digress….
The
evening was put together beautifully. Upon walking into the Berkeley Church
venue, you were greeted with (fake) snow coming from the ceiling. Of course, my
first words were, “winter is coming.” Walking upstairs and into the main area
we were met by some witches, who by looking into their cauldrons could tell which Game of Throne’s family we were part of. According
to the witch, I look like I will do anything to survive, so of course I was sat
at the Lannister table.
Lex PR did a great job with this event. There were White
Walkers walking around, and you were able to take pictures with them. They were
honestly terrifying. There was also an iron throne set up, just like the one
from the show. You could pose for pictures on the iron throne, and even use
some of the props provided (swords, capes, crowns etc.).
There were different cocktails for the different
families, and they all had candy in them. They were delightful! There were
waiters walking around with tempting appetizers to hold us over until dinner
was served. Each family was called down to their tables separately for dinner. The
dinner was buffet style, with fish, beef, lasagne, vegetables, salad…and so
much more. It was delicious. Who doesn’t love buffet style? It just means you
can go back for seconds, and thirds, and….
While everyone was seated they had entertainment on the stage. There was a sword fight, which escalated once the swords were lit on fire! After the sword fights, the president of HBO Canada came out and talked about all the new shows HBO has coming, as well as some that are coming to an end. Then they brought out Devon
Soltendieck, who would be interviewing two of the stars from Game of Thrones, Isaac
Hempstead-Wright who plays Bran Stark and Kristian Nairn who plays Hodor. These
two actors are very close in the series, and in real life you can see that bond
carries over. For quite a bit of the interview it was basically the two actors
talking amongst themselves, telling inside jokes, while Devon
and the rest of us just looked on. Their chemistry is amazing and it portrays
onto the screen. I had the pleasure of meeting both actors afterwards, and
after speaking with them, they are both sweethearts. They love what they do and
they love all their fans.
As the evening drew to a close, we were presented
with gift bags. Each family received a personalized gift bag. The Lannister
family bag contained the first 3 seasons of Game of Thrones on Blu-Ray, and a
Lannister family mug. This isn’t your typical coffee mug however, it’s massive!
The evening was very fun filled, I met some awesome new people, had some great food and drinks and am even more excited for the Season 4 premier of Game of Thrones!
Is it April yet?!
