A little while back I took on the role of Community Manager for the #RAKE (Random Acts of Kindness Everywhere) Now organization. I'm managing all of their social media channels and in doing so - I am inspired every day by the selflessness that so many people show. The simple act of doing something kind for someone who may never repay you is what the #RAKE movement is all about.

I have formed the #RAKE Toronto division and held the first ever #RAKE event here in Toronto! It was held last weekend, on my birthday. I decided that instead of throwing a big party - I wanted to give back. With the help of some amazing sponsors, volunteers, friends and family (new and old) - we took over the corner of Yonge and Dundas Saturday afternoon in an attempt to spread some positive vibes! There is so much negativity and sadness in the world as is, so if we can take a little time to spread a little kindness - I think we should.
That afternoon we met so many different people - all from different walks of life. We met tourists in town who were surprised and taken back by the kindness complete strangers were showing them, and we met homeless people who were extremely grateful for the compassion we showed. We also met people who were so hesitant to accept the random acts of kindness...they weren't used to it - they thought there had to be a catch! Even speaking with police officers who stopped by (not to give us trouble, thankfully!) - I had to explain that nope, no catch. It was simply my birthday and I just wanted to give back.
My plan is to make this an annual event on my birthday - so I hope you can make it out next time! There will also be many other #RAKE events taking place in Toronto - so be sure to keep your eyes open to my Twitter feed, the #RAKE Toronto Twitter feed and the #RAKE Twitter feed.
I want to thank our amazing sponsors:
Kernels Popcorn for donating a massive bag of popcorn that was devoured by everyone as well as 2-4-1 coupons!
Palais Royale for donating cookies that were apparently delicious as people kept coming back for more!
The Printing House for donating the amazing #RAKE sign that'll be used at every #RAKE event in Toronto!
I also want to thank every single person that came out to support this amazing movement. Your support and encouragement means the world to me and without you - I wouldn't have been able to hold this awesome event.
For all those that weren't able to make it out to Yonge and Dundas on Saturday, but still supported through Twitter and Instagram - thank you as well. The more people hear about this movement - the more people will act on it. I've already started seeing others who were inspired by the #RAKE movement start performing their own #RAKE's and that makes me so happy I feel as though my heart might explode. LOL
Check out some of the pics below from the #RAXE x #Birthday x #Toronto event last Saturday, and if you have any more - send them my way!
