I wish I were one of those women who dress impeccably ALL OF THE TIME. You've seen them...in the airport in 6" heels, flawless outfit and makeup...*sigh* But, I am not. Especially when I am travelling. Then, I'm more of the "function over fashion" mentality. However, that being said - I don't head out on my road trips in my PJs! LOL
As you know, I am a huge fan of road trips. I've been on my fair share this past year - mainly weekend getaways. Though they've just been weekend getaways - the majority of my road trips have included multiple hours of driving and sitting in the car. Upwards of 5-6 hours, including stops along the way, for some - like my most recent trip back to the Ottawa Valley where I visited the beautiful town of Almonte. It was so much fun - but you'll read more about that trip in the upcoming weeks!
As much as I love driving and exploring what's right here in our own backyard in Ontario - I know for a fact that if I'm in the car, or travelling in general - for an extended period of time - the chances of me getting cranky are high. LOL Sitting in a car for hours, especially if you're uncomfortable - can be very unpleasant! You know it to be true! So, one of the things I do to try and minimize said crankiness is dress appropriately.
I always like to ensure I'm dressed weather appropriate as well as comfortably, especially for winter road trips. It can be nice and toasty in the car, but when you pull over to get gas or sight-see - it's cold out there! The Canada Goose Freestyle Vest is well-insulated - if you've ever owned Canada Goose - you know how amazingly warm the brand keeps you! The vest is perfect for travel because it's so versatile and perfect for layering.
Big, comfy sweaters and skinny jeans is my go-to look for fall/winter. Much like the Canada Goose Freestyle Vest - this look is versatile, the pair can be dressed up or down. My favourite place to find the perfect pair of jeans is Jean Machine. Hands down. They have every fit, style and colour available and will work with you to figure out what is right for you and your body. If you're looking for sweaters - head to H & M. Their selection and price ranges are plentiful! I may or may not be addicted to shopping there on my lunch break.
Spoiler: I totally am.
But, I think we can all agree that the most important part of your wardrobe when travelling is what is on your feet, right? If you're on a road trip - you'll be driving and most definitely need comfortable footwear. I love my TOMS Light Grey Cable Knit Suede Women's Nepal Boots. Not only are they incredibly comfortable - they're also stylish! They have a warm fleece lining that keeps my tender tootsies nice and warm and a solid rubber sole that helps keep me from falling on my face...which, if you follow me on Twitter you'll know - happens far too often. Way more than I'd like to admit.
What's great about the TOMS brand is that the founder, Blake Mycoskie is an avid traveller and in 2006 he befriended children in a rural village in Argentina. He soon realized that these kids had no shoes! Nothing to protect their little feet. That's when he founded TOMS with the mission to match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes for a child in need. One for One.® So, not only are you purchasing a quality product - you're also helping someone in need. That's a win in my books, for sure!
How amazing is that?!
In 2011, he launched TOMS Eyewear to help restore sight to persons in need with every purchase of sunglasses and optical frames. This year, TOMS Roasting Co. launched with the mission to provide clean water to developing communities with every purchase of their premium coffee.
TOMS is in business to improve lives. We identify a global need and create products to help address them. This simple idea is what makes us more than a company – we’re a movement that’s continually evolving.
TOMS are available at retailers across Canada and at TOMS.ca.
Disclaimer: My amazing TOMS boots were gifted to me, however, as per usual - my views are entirely my own and I literally wear them every day. They are incredibly comfortable!
