'Tis the season for cuddling up, staying and, watching movies and enjoying a nice glass of wine, #amiright? Well, my friends - I disagree! I LOVE embracing the Canadian winter weather and getting out there to experience different adventures! Obviously, bundle up and dress appropriately, but get out there and explore!
Did you know that Ontario and British Columbia are know around the world for producing some of the finest Icewine?
With our warm summers, and cold (but not too cold, except right now...) winters - Ontario has produced icewine every year since 1984? It takes 3 consecutive days with temperatures at -8 minimum (brr!) for the grapes to be harvested for icewine. Thanks to our recent, and ongoing cold spell here in Southern Ontario - we reached that point yesterday! Congrats?
Last night I ventured out in the bitter cold to one of my favourite spots in the city, iYellow Wine Club. Angela and the iYellow team were hosting a night highlighting icewine from the Niagara Region and the #NiagaraChilled events being held throughout January. #NiagaraChilled is spread out over 3 weekends, featuring 58 wineries at 15 different events.
During #NiagaraChilled, the Niagara region is hosting a variety of festivities in wine country this month. Icewine and cheese seminars, wine tours, street festivals - even celebrity hosted brunches and dinners! You can plan your getaway by visiting www.niagarachilled.com and follow along with all of the social media posts using the hashtag, #NiagaraChilled.
The perfect winter weekend getaway, if you ask me!
In typical iYellow Wine Club fashion, there was a great spread of noms last night. From cheese plates (look how creamy!) to lamingtons from Eat Kanga and oh-so-much chocolate, it was really difficult to stay away! As I've mentioned - I recently started the Insanity fitness program, so I'm watching what I put into my body. The struggle was real last night, let me tell you! *fights air*
iYellow Wine Club is also hosting a #NiagaraChilled icewine tour themselves, on January 24th. Featuring Rosewood Estates, Pillitteri Estates and Inniskillin you'll hop on the iYellow bus first thing in the morning (relax, 10am - not the crack of dawn) and head down to the Niagara Wine County (a.k.a - Winter Wonderland) and all drinks, snacks, transportation and tastings are included! Heading down with the iYellow Wine Club team - I guarantee you'll have fun - they're all a blast and truly passionate about what they do! I mean, wouldn't you be if you got to drink wine all day?
