Meditation - My Key to Finding Clarity and Calmness Every Morning

Life can be so incredibly hectic and stressful. As someone who has suffered from severe depression and anxiety - the holidays can actually be a trigger. From the over-crowded malls and shops, to planning the holiday dinner (and everything in between) - the holidays can be stressful

One of the things I have recently taken up is meditating every morning. This has helped incredibly with my stress and anxiety levels and was a true life saver over the craziness that were the holidays! 

When I meditate, I just *be*. I *be* in the moment and breathe. I just sit. I sit there, in silence and am just *still*. I take deep breaths, try to keep my mind from racing (try being the operative word, as I am still quite new!) and, really, like I said - I just *be*

Seems my pets, Precious (dog) and Seven (kitten) have picked up on the fact that when I am meditating - to leave me alone. They see me get up, sit cross-legged and they look over at me, then roll back over and go back to sleep. Those lazy little rascals! LOL

Meditation is a state of deep peace that occurs when the mind is calm and silent.

But seriously - let's not kid ourselves, meditation can be overwhelming and scary. I was extremely skeptical at first. I thought to myself, "How on Earth am I supposed to keep my mind from racing? I have so much on the go!" - but with a little practice it has gotten easier and easier. It's gotten to the point where before I go to bed, I'm actually excited to wake up - just to have that time of stillness at the end of what I seem to always have, a crazy, busy day.

Meditation benefits the body and the mind.

There are so many benefits to meditation. Not only does it lower high blood pressure, it also lowers the levels of blood lavtate. And, if you're prone to anxiety attacks like I am - this is a huge bonus. If you're stressed and feeling the pains from said stress - meditation can help. It decreases tension headaches, muscle and joint pains/problems and can even help with insomnia! Fighting the on-going battle that is depression? Again - meditation can help because it increases serotonin production which will improve your behaviour and mood. You'll have more energy and patience throughout the day.

It Teaches You To Practice Consistency

Unfortunately, the benefits that come from meditating don’t come within just one session. This is not just a one-time fixer-upper, rather it needs to be practiced with consistency, which is sadly why so many people give up before receiving said benefits.

Life is stressful, there is no doubt about that. Between work, social life and family life, there is always something going on that can drive you crazy at any time.

It’s easy to lose sight of the big picture when life is stressing you out. This is exactly why actively practicing against this is so helpful. Meditating helps you to remain in control of your emotions while keeping a level head.

It Encourages Overall Mental And Physical Health

Exercising your mind will make you want to exercise in all areas of your life. Meditating can keep you focused on a work-out routine while also keeping you motivated.

It Promotes Positive Thinking

The point of meditating is to relax, focus and think. When you sit and reflect on your life, the best way to go about it is positively and constructively.
