CIAS with General Motors Canada

Last year was my first time attending the Canadian International Auto Show, thanks to my awesome friends at Chevrolet Canada, and this year I was lucky enough to have the chance to visit the CIAS with the GM Canada team for the Media Day preview. GM Canada brought out a handful, maybe 10 (?) bloggers and influencers for Media Day, giving us front of the line access to the unveiling coming from Cadillac and Chevrolet

Our day started off bright and early when we met at SoCo Kitchen + Bar for a group breakfast with the other bloggers and media who would be joining in for the day. I had never been to SoCo, so I was excited to try out the breakfast menu. Not to mention, I was terribly sick the day before...so I was starving! LOL Lucky for us, SoCo is located in the new Delta Hotel which is directly across the street from the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, so we didn't have to walk in the BITTER COLD too much after breakfast!

We were greeted with a bag of goodies such as The Toronto Popcorn Company popcorn (Maple Bacon flavor FTW!), Vitamin Water, gum/mints and most importantly - a fully charged portable battery. This was a godsend - truthfully!  As someone who is always out and about, you can never have too many external chargers! Thank you GM Canada!

The very first thing I did was order some piping hot tea. Walking from Union Station over to SoCo was not the longest walk - but was definitely not pleasant. Hello, Polar Vortex, am I right? Is it spring yet?

As I sipped my tea, I checked out the menu of deliciousness available for breakfast at SoCo Kitchen + Bar. Finally, I settled on ordering the Banana and Walnut Bread French Toast. And...OMG...so good! SassyGirlCanada ordered the Quinoa Pancakes and loved them and quite a few people at the table ordered the Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict and again, nothing but raves! The even have a breakfast counter buffet with eggs, smoked salmon, granola...and pretty much anything else your heart could desire. I def want to go back for that!

I just had to include a shot of these flowers, aren't they gorgeous?

After breakfast, we battled the cold in a 3 minute walk across the street to the MTCC. Once we got to the CIAS, the first stop of the day was at the Buick Pavilion.  Here I learned about the Buick Drive For Your Students initiative.

"Buick dealerships have the opportunity to team up with a public high school to host a one day test drive event to raise money for their school. Buick will donate $10 for every valid test drive taken. If your event exceeds 100 test drives, Buick will double their donation to $20 per valid test drive. Up to $10,000 can be raised for the school from a single event! And to top it off, each participant that chooses to receive communication from GM will be eligible for the GM Educator’s Discount."

How cool is that?

Next up was the highly anticipated release of the new Cadillac CTS and ATS Vseries. Last year, when I went to Montreal for a girls weekend away I was fortunate enough to drive the Cadillac CTS down and it was amazing!

You can read all about that ride HERE.

A video posted by Andrew @fastdrvr (@fastdrvr) on

Shout out to Andrew for the awesome Instagram video of the unveiling! And for tagging me to make sure I saw it. :)

The all new CTS-V is the most powerful in Cadillac's 112-year history. With horsepower at 640, the CTS-V can go 0-96 km/h in just 3.7 seconds!

Though, I don't recommend doing that unless you are a professional on a designated course, obvs!

We also got a sneak peak at the all new concept car coming from Cadillac, the  Cadillac Elmiraj. How sleek is that!? Reminds me of the Batmobile. LOL

“Elmiraj advances Cadillac’s provocative modern design and performance, contrasted with bespoke craftsmanship and luxury,” says Mark Adams, Cadillac design director. “It explores performance driving, as well as how we’re approaching elevating the Cadillac range and new dimensions of Art & Science philosophy.”

Next on the days agenda was the Chevrolet Canada press conference. This is the part I was most excited for, because - face it, as beautiful as those Cadillac's are, they're a teeny tiny bit out of my price range. LOL I was very interested to hear about the redesign on the Volt and to capture the unveiling of the concept turned reality car, the Bolt EV.

The 2016 Chevrolet Volt is a plug-in, electric hybrid vehicle. The originally released 2015 Volt has a different interior than the newly updated 2016 Volt. I was speaking with someone at the show, and they referred to the 2015 interior as "Star Trek Esque". LOL After showing me a picture, I understood what he meant. It was white and very minimal. The 2016 Volt interior is gorgeous with dual 8" LED colour displays and access to the Chevrolet MyLink system.

"Every element of the interior is designed to provide an intuitive and refined driving experience. From the all-new driver displays to available ambient lighting cues, Volt is a truly advanced electric car. The Volt interior features a sculptural, ergonomic design. Its simplified and roomier interior includes an available heated steering wheel and heated front and rear seats."

After discussing the 2016 Volt, it was time for the main event!

The unveiling of the all new, concept turned reality car, the Bolt EV.

The Bolt EV was introduced at the Detroit Auto Show, and generated such a buzz that GM Canada decided to put it into production! The Bolt EV is "slated to shake up the status quo for electric vehicles as the first affordable long-range EV in the market."  It's estimated that the Bolt EV will have a range of over 200 miles and come in at an affordable price range, around $30,000.

"Every aspect of the innovative and uncompromising design, from the body's unique silhouette to the lightweight materials used both inside and out, is designed to push the envelope both technologically and aesthetically. The interior of the Bolt EV concept car is intended to feel like a sanctuary. The generous headroom and legroom wonderfully combines with a contemporary, light color scheme to give the concept car a warm and roomy feel."
